Something About The Name: Jehovah-tsidkenu (Part 1)
Jeremiah 23:5 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth. (6 )In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.
Today’s devotional begins our focus on the name “Jehovah-tsidkenu”. This name is the Hebrew name for “The Lord our Righteousness” taken from verse 6 of our text.
During the time in Israel’s history when God allowed them to have kings, He would call and separate a prophet who would speak and bring instruction or warning to the king and the people. Under king Saul, king David, and king Solomon, the kingdom of Israel was united. After the death of king Solomon the kingdom was divided. There were 10 tribes in the north and 2 in the south. The Northern kingdom was called Israel and the Southern kingdom was called Judah. There were so many bad kings in the northern kingdom of Israel that God allowed them to fall into the hands of their enemies
The Southern kingdom of Judah were following in Israel’s footsteps. The bible says they did evil in the sight of God. The land was full of
oppression and violence. The priests, the princes and the people polluted the house of the Lord. They mocked the prophets and messengers of God. The kings who were to be an extension of Jehovah, a Righteous Branch, were practicing the abominations of the heathen. They allowed injustice and unrighteousness to prevail. So God raised up a prophet by the name of Jeremiah. With a heavy heart and many tears he began to plead with the people to repent and return to God. He saw in visions the destruction of Jerusalem and the people going into captivity. Despite all the destruction he saw would happen to Judah, he also saw that Judah had hope for their future.
My friend, I may not know who you are today reading this devotional but God knows you. He inspired me to write these words to encourage you that there is hope for your future. It doesn’t matter who you are and where you’ve been. It doesn’t matter how bad your situation is. It doesn’t matter how dark your day is. It doesn’t matter what you’ve done and how bad you messed up. There is hope for your future. It’s not over until God says it’s over! Jeremiah had some good news despite prophesying doom and gloom to the nation of Judah. He declared in our text in chapter 23 verse 5, “Behold, a day is coming…”. Behold means to look, see it, and catch the vision. Go ahead and say it to yourself right now, “I can see my day coming this year!”

Send this message to a friend…and go and take charge of the day!
